Suggestions for Long Term Goals for Humanity

The Human Ship is RudderlessPeople expend enormous energy pursuing day-to-day activities. With gusto we work, play, and live, but our societies make only very slow progress. Major problems like warfare, inequality, and environmental degradation continue to fester decade after decade, century after century. Why, despite our enormous collective capability, do our societies advance so slowly? In large part, I think it's because we lack direction. The human ship is rudderless. If we could increase, even by a small amount, the fraction of our collective time and energy devoted to achieving worthwhile long term goals, humanity would leap ahead.Suggestions makes the case for seven long term (ten generation) goals. When humanity establishes and begins to achieve worthwhile long term goals, we will have taken the first step beyond our infancy and into our childhood.
