The central argument of this collection of essays is that Theodore Roosevelt's unique combination of personal, cultural, intellectual and diplomatic links to Europe, along with his goal of establishing a more prominent role for the United States in international politics, enabled him to lay the foundations for the modern U.S.-European relations.
