Übermäßiger und fehlerhafter Antibiotikagebrauch kann zu Therapieversagen führen, setzt den Patienten dem Risiko vermeidbarer Nebenwirkungen aus und begünstigt die Entwicklung resistenter, schwer zu behandelnder Erreger. Eine daraus resultierende Verlängerung des Krankenhausaufenthalts ist, neben den Einkaufspreisen der Antibiotika selbst, ein bedeutender Kostenfaktor. Die vorliegende Arbeit konnte zeigen, dass Interventionen durch einen Apotheker einen Einfluss auf unterschiedliche Aspekte der Antibiotikatherapie auf chirurgischen Normalstationen haben, ohne den Krankheitsverlauf negativ zu beeinflussen. Pharmazeutische Interventionen tragen zur Arzneimitteltherapiesicherheit bei, erhöhen den Therapieerfolg und beeinflussen direkt und indirekt die Arzneimittelkosten.
