In 1842, a company of Texans crossed the Rio Grande expecting a fight. What followed became one of the most harrowing episodes in the history of the Republic of Texas.

Beneath the Burning Star follows A. B. Hanna, a young Texan swept into the Mier Expedition and the long ordeal that followed-battle, capture, forced marches, imprisonment, and the infamous drawing of the black beans, when chance determined who would live and who would die.

But survival is more than staying alive.

As Hanna and his fellow prisoners are driven deeper into Mexico and eventually confined at Perote, hunger, exhaustion, fear, loyalty, and memory begin to strip each man down to what remains when almost everything else has been taken away.

Based on real events and populated by historical figures including Bigfoot Wallace, Beneath the Burning Star is a work of historical fiction about endurance, friendship, chance, and the stubborn human instinct to keep moving forward.
