Cassandra M Klyman was born and raised in Manhattan, established her psychodynamically-informed private practice in the Detroit area, and has semi-retired to Los Angeles. She is a graduate of the High School of Music & Art and was pre-med at Barnard College.
She started her medical studies at NYU Bellevue Medical School but transferred, when she got married, and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School completing her psychoanalytic training at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute. She's a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a past president of the Michigan Psychiatric Society, and a Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners. She is an early charter member of the Chinese American Psychoanalytic Alliance supervising and teaching, via Zoom, students from Beijing to Outer Mongolia. She has published in peer-reviewed professional journals, presented papers nationally and internationally, and is now wanting to have an even wider audience through fiction and non-fiction to share the healing possibilities that therapy offers.
Her inspiration for writing Beyond Sadness was an actual case where a decision had to be made whether a patient's confession was true or false to a cold-case regarding the rape and murder of a little girl. However this actual novel is highly fictionalized and has no distinguishable resemblance to persons living or dead.
Family activities, tennis, swimming, and entertaining have been a source of satisfaction for Dr. Klyman alongside of her professional accomplishments. Recently, she has also returned to her earlier hobbies of painting and jewelry making.
