Am Beispiel der westdeutschen Nachkriegszeit untersucht Johanna Bethge die Einrichtung der »Textbook and Curriculum Center« sowie die Rolle von Social Studies-ExpertInnen und LehrerInnen bei der Konzeption und Legitimation neuer Schulbücher für den Geschichtsunterricht nach 1945. Dabei kommt nicht nur das gedruckte Schulbuch zur Untersuchung, sondern auch sein transnationaler Entstehungsprozess auf Basis unerschlossener Quellenbestände aus In- und Ausland. Dadurch werden ungewöhnliche Einblicke in die individuelle und kollektive Praxis der Schulbuchproduktion und -rezeption geliefert und gängige Einschätzungen der Reeducation-Forschung widerlegt. Das Schulbuch - Medium zur Demokratisierung und Entnazifizierung der westdeutschen Gesellschaft
