"Biomimetics" is a term that Otto Schmitt invented. Literally, it means playing at being alive. The study of natural structural processes is to try and replicate them artificially in order to maintain the same aesthetics or work. Since there are no natural ways to rebuild tooth structure, biomimetic techniques can be used to mechanically return teeth to their original form and function.
