Cabo Bruno: Brazilian Vigilante Serial Killer

When Brazilian journalist Carla Mendes begins investigating the 2012 execution-style murder of former police officer Florisvaldo de Oliveira-known as "Cabo Bruno"-she uncovers more than a revenge killing. Bruno was a serial killer who murdered over 50 people in 1980s São Paulo as part of a systematic death squad operation. His assassination, 34 days after release from prison, was meant to silence him forever.

Working with colleague Paulo Santos, Carla discovers Bruno's hidden journal at a religious shrine-287 pages documenting not just his own crimes, but an entire network of corruption called the fraternidade. This conspiracy connected police commanders, prosecutors, judges, politicians, and business leaders who had operated with impunity for three decades.

As the journalists publish their findings, they face death threats, professional surveillance, and months in protective custody. Their investigation triggers dozens of prosecutions, resulting in 23 convictions including high-ranking officials. But the cost is enormous-disrupted lives, destroyed relationships, and permanent danger.
