Gegenstand dieser Arbeit sind die römischen Deklamationen des Prinzipats. Die Deklamationen Senecas des Älteren, Quintilians und Calpurnius Flaccus' werden auf ihre Relevanz für die Rechtsgeschichte hin untersucht. Der Realitätsbezug des verwendeten Rechts wird ebenso geprüft wie die Methode der juristischen Argumentation und der sozio-kulturelle Kontext. Die in der Literatur bislang herrschende Ansicht, die römischen Deklamationen seien reine rhetorische Übungsstücke und für die Rechtsgeschichte nicht von Bedeutung, wird in der Arbeit widerlegt.
