Die Diskursdeixis ist als spezifische Form der Temporaldeixis zu betrachten, die stets auch ein metakommunikatives Element enthält. Der metakommunikative Bestandteil der Diskursdeixis wird vor allem über Verben zum Ausdruck gebracht. Die temporaldeiktische Referenz basiert auf der Interaktion lexikalischer Aspektklassen mit anderen temporalen Ausdrücken, nicht nur deiktischen wie dem Tempus, sondern auch adeiktischen wie dem grammatischen Aspekt sowie solchen, die wie die Adverbien sowohl deiktisch als auch adeiktisch sein können.
