Down by the Riverside: A Story of God's Grace Working in the Country of Portugal is the story of a family that said, "Yes," to Jesus and took giant leaps of faith to begin to plant Riverside Church. Pastor and Dr. Eddie Fernandes (D.MIN.) is the Senior Pastor of Riverside Church in Portugal. His wife, Marta, along with their daughters, (and extended family) now enjoy the fruit of the many years of hard labor that Eddie and Marta began over thirty years ago. For this entire family, church-planting and being part of Christ's community of believers has been an amazing adventure of faith. While this is a history book of the events that happened and the cost, rewards, and joy of planting Riverside Church, it is a book also dedicated to the recalling of past events and how God saw fit to use one family to build a beautiful community of believers that spread throughout the world; yet, this is not a book about people. It actually is a book about God. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning, and the end. Everything revolves around Him. Just as He was the architect of the first sanctuary, the Tabernacle, He was also the mastermind behind both the Temple and later the Church. This is His Story, and how He worked in the Country of Portugal. This is a glance at the amazing grace of God, and the inner-workings of churches, church-plants, and how often the Enemy can work among the brethren. Yet, God is ever faithful. Pastor Eddie Fernandes' sincere hope is that readers would find much wisdom and faith to continue and persevere and solace in God, shedding light into His ways of maturing and refining individuals to serve Him. He is the Master Potter. To Pastor Eddie's family, and extended family at Riverside, this is a treasure and the legacy he leaves to all of his family, other ministry members and fellow servants, and speaks to the heart of those that have carried the high cost of His calling, carrying their own cross, to serve the Only One worthy of our praise, Jesus Christ - The Chief Cornerstone and the Light of the World.
