Birthe Wilke blev fřdt i Křbenhavn den 19. marts 1936 og allerede som 15-ĺrig startede hun en sangkarriere. I 1955 fik hun sit store gennembrud med »Den gamle gartners sang«, som hun sang sammen med kgl. operasanger Mogens Wedel. I 1957 medvirkede hun i det fřrste danske og internationale Melodi Grand Prix i Frankfurt i Vesttyskland, hvor hun sammen med Gustav Winckler sang »Skibet skal sejle i nat«. Sangen sluttede med et meget laaangt kys, som stadig huskes af mange. I 1959 medvirkede hun atter i det internationale Melodi Grand Prix, denne gang i Cannes i Frankrig, med sangen »Uh! jeg ville řnske jeg var dig«. Og i 1961 vandt hun en international sangkonkurrence i Sopot i Polen, med en komposition af Ib Glindemann »Wake up«. 50-erne var et forrygende ĺrti for Birthe Wilke med masser af succes. Hun indspillede ca. 200 sange pĺ grammofonplade og medvirkede ogsĺ i flere film. Mest som sangerinde. I midten af tresserne, hvor hun i mellemtiden var blevet mor, trak hun sig ud af rampelyset for at hellige sig familielivet. I 2003 trĺdte hun atter frem for offentligheden, idet hun begyndte at holde foredrag om sin karriere i 50-erne.
