Mit dem Aufkommen der Massenmedien ist Fußball zu einem Mediensport geworden. Auch im World Wide Web ist der Fußball präsent, haben die Verbände und Vereine doch längst ihre eigenen Internetauftritte, wo sie über das aktuelle Geschehen informieren. Doch bietet das Internet, insbesondere die so genannten Web 2.0-Anwendungen, zahlreiche weitere Möglichkeiten für Fußballvereine, über die bloße Veröffentlichung von "Online-Nachrichten" hinaus, selbst medial aktiv zu werden. Darum geht der Autor in dem Buch der Fragestellung nach, ob und inwieweit sich vor allem die Web 2.0-Anwendung "Podcast" für Fußballvereine als Kommunikationskanal eignet. Bezogen auf den Beispielverein "Rot Weiss Ahlen" führt er dazu die Fakten einer umfassenden Betrachtung zu Web 2.0 und Podcasts mit Erkenntnissen zum "Phänomen Fußball" zusammen. Weiterhin kombiniert er diese mit den Ergebnissen einer Fan-Umfrage bei "Rot Weiss Ahlen". So gelingt es ihm, einen Leitfaden zur Produktion eines Vereins-Podcasts zu erstellen.
