Gleichzeitig zeichnet er ein realistisches Bild des Alltags am Hamborger Hafen Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts. Holger Drachmann (1846-1908) war nach seinem Kunststudium in Kopenhagen für kurze Zeit als Maler tätig, wandte sich jedoch schon bald dem Schreiben zu. In seinen Werken setzte er sich auch auf dichterischem Wege mit der gesellschaftlichen Situation in Dänemark zu seiner Zeit auseinander.
