Die in 2 Bänden vorgelegte Sammlung von Aufsätzen des Göttinger Romanisten Okko Behrends bietet einen weitgespannten und intensiven Einblick in moderne Ergebnisse der Beschäftigung mit dem römischen Recht, das hier als vielfach interessanter historischer Gegenstand und als Grundlage geltender Dogmatik in Erscheinung tritt. Nach dem Forschungsansatz von Behrends wird die eigenrömische Prägung in den siedlungsgeschichtlichen Grundlagen dargestellt, werden die Einflüsse der griechischen Philosophie auf die römischen Juristen erkundet und die so erreichte Tiefenschärfe für die Interpretation der Quellen von der Republik bis zu den kaiserzeitlichen Rechtsschulen der Sabinianer und Prokulianer genutzt. Am Anfang der Sammlung stehen Aufsätze zur Methode. Es folgen Beiträge zur Dogmatik und ihren geschichtlichen Grundlagen, die nach Personenrecht, Sachenrecht und Schuldrecht gegliedert sind. Abschließend sind einige Kurzbiographien wiedergegeben.Der Reiz der Sammlung liegt in der Zusammenstellung zentraler Ergebnisse des bereits seit vier Jahrzehnten verfolgten Forschungsansatzes und in der Erleichterung des Zugangs mithilfe eines Schlagwort- und eines Quellenregisters.
