Peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) has long been synonymous with an incurable terminal stage, much like liver metastases in colorectal cancers. As with liver metastases, an aggressive treatment approach has been developed for PC, with a significant increase in its use in recent years. Intraperitoneal chemohyperthermia (IPCH) performed immediately after complete resection of PC has been developed with the aim of achieving complete remission in certain patients, which would represent a major therapeutic advance, as until now, with standard treatments, almost all (90%) of these patients died within 2 years of being diagnosed with PC. However, there is still no consensus on the protocols for ICH and the identification of appropriate indications, nor are these fully validated for certain indications. Many technical details remain to be defined. Consequently, almost all CHIP procedures are currently being performed in specialist centres and within the framework of research protocols.
