Engel gelingt es, dem Leser einen der größten Dichter Britanniens sowie dessen Stellung zur Welt scharfsinnig und intelligent vorzustellen und verhilft ihm zugleich zu einem besseren Verständnis von Byrons Gesamtwerk. Schließlich existiert ein Gedicht nicht ohne seinen Dichter, ohne seine Person. Und gerade in Bezug auf Byron könnte diese Aussage nicht zutreffender sein, zeigen doch die Figuren seiner Werke durchweg eine Konzentration um das Innere des Dichters. §Esther Gückel, geb. 1983 in Köln, ist studierte Germanistin und Historikerin. Neben ihrer Tätigkeit als Lektorin promoviert sie darüber hinaus in der Germanistischen Mediävistik über den Wälschen Gast Thomasins von Zerclaere.
