It was supposed to be a milk run, easy money: a simple smash and grab job on a small biotechnology firm. Released from prison by a Federal agent who says he needs her expertise, Xyl only finds more questions than answers as she follows a trail that somebody has obviously meant her to find. Along the way she picks up an enigmatic partner named Gracie. The two find themselves working together without truly trusting each other, following broken links and hidden netcodes to the destroyed netspace of a psychotic programmer. Xyl's NetRunning expertise can stop the programmer's Artificial Intelligences from carrying out their program ? but will she make it in time to stop them? Whatever it is at the end of the run, someone is going to a lot of trouble and expense trying to keep Xyl and Gracie out.
