Triad pairs are one of the signature sounds of modern jazz guitar. This book doesn't explain them: it trains them.
Mastering Triad Pairs is an 8-week program, 20 minutes a day, that turns triad pairs into muscle memory and melodic fluency across the whole fretboard. It starts with the whole-step pair -two major triads a whole step apart- and takes it over eight different chord functions; then it adds the minor pair, the symmetric pairs over the diminished dominant and the augmented chord, and the augmented hexatonic.
What's inside:
• A fixed four-block daily routine: mobility map, speed drill, harmonic circuit and creative constraint.
• A Trial by Fire every week, with a clear pass criterion: you don't move on until you pass it.
• Four phases -motor foundation, tension, changes and modern aesthetics-: from modal vamps to the major ii-V-I, the minor ii-V-i, the jazz blues, rhythm changes and cycles of thirds.
• 88 backing tracks (double bass, drums and piano) accessed by QR code, plus loop tracks with the voicing of each exercise if you'd rather not use a looper.
• Fretboard diagrams showing the function of every note, standard notation and tablature.
• Appendices: master table chord → pair, the whole-step pair in all 12 keys, other pairs, a bank of drills and constraints, and an 8-week log.
For guitarists who already know their major triads and inversions, understand triad pairs on paper, and want them to come out when they play. The theory is in Tension and Resolution, by the same author, cited chapter by chapter wherever each week needs it; here, it gets practiced.
Stop thinking triad pairs. Start playing them.
