Modern Alchemy

Milepost 3 arrives under a Full Moon in Taurus opposing the Scorpio Sun - the astrological moment when what has been held in silence is forced into speech. The Ego learns to assert himself at the dinner table of the internal community, calmly and without rage, against the old guard who would prefer he stay silent. A relay race reaches its fourth and final leg and descends into a catacomb where fuchsia flamingos - flames of the Abyss - approach only as slowly as the Ego does. A garden is modeled in clay that becomes a living tree when the Ego stops looking so close. The Anima reveals her true coloration: a pale tiger lily in blue and orange, not yet fully charged, but authentically her own for the first time.

Meanwhile the portal work with the Vessel deepens. A soul-binding Vow is taken. The Eagle's eyes are given. A Yellow Dragon enters the psyche to provide steadfast masculine calm. A Trickster speaks three words in a language the Vessel barely has the organs to hear. The abstract community of Whitestone is prophesied to dissolve - and a remnant will become prophets.

Milepost 4 shifts register. The Mother's long game within the psyche is exposed in full: the Magician reveals she has been sacrificing the Ego's Inner Children - his creative outputs - as payment of debts to a higher power. The Ego, furious and newly clear-eyed, begins the work of starving her out. The dark feminine must receive no more unintentional energy.

The concrete side deepens. The Di-Ego collaborates with an unknown mulatto Shadow figure to access a far more sophisticated interface with the unconscious. A first-person shooter dream maps the entire arc of individuation as a game that has now reached its final room. The Wise Old Man and the Magician of the light side of the Sun - Panis, not Malipanis - reveal themselves in a retirement home, and from the face of an unfinished lute, moving images of the heart's harvest begin to appear.

By the close of Milepost 4, the game of individuation as Jung understood it appears to have been completed. What comes next is not an ending - it is the beginning of something the tradition has no map for.
