The main character is a boy named Craig. His age is not mentioned but he is probably in his early teens. He has a younger sister, Lisa. Craig and Lisa have lost their family through death. They have been taken in by distant relatives but it is not a happy situation. 'Uncle Pete', in particular, gives them a hard time.
