What happens when God loves you out loud, but the Bible appears to condemn you?
For much of her life, Nichelle M. Muñoz lived at the intersection of two truths she could not reconcile: the God she knew through deeply personal encounters, and the God she had been taught to understand through Scripture.
Growing up with an attraction to girls, she struggled with biblical passages that seemed to leave little room for someone like her. Pastors insisted that personal feelings and experiences could never supersede the Word of God. She understood their reasoning. She believed in the authority of Scripture, too.
But there was a problem.
The God she encountered in prayer did not seem to respond to her with condemnation. He showed up in her life with a love and tenderness she could neither deny nor explain. And when she prayed for companionship, love arrived in ways that challenged everything she thought she understood.
How could both things be true?
No Thorns: A Memoir follows Muñoz from her childhood in the U.S. Virgin Islands through military service, professional achievement, family wounds, spiritual encounters, and the unexpected love that would transform her understanding of belonging.
This is not a memoir written to dismiss Scripture or persuade readers to abandon their faith. It is the story of a woman who eventually discovered that loving and trusting God did not require resolving every apparent contradiction between the Bible, its interpretations, and her own lived experiences.
For anyone who has ever loved God while fearing His rejection, No Thorns offers a deeply personal testimony of faith, identity, courage, and grace. It is an invitation to consider that unanswered questions need not be the end of faith-and that perhaps the journey toward authenticity begins when we stop demanding certainty before allowing ourselves to be loved.
Most memoirs end with leaving. This one ends with staying-authentically.
