Sprachliche Elemente im User Interface sind das Ergebnis eines hochgradig sprachlich geprägten Entwicklungsprozesses. Nutzungsanforderungen erfahren darin einen Wechsel zwischen Laut- und Schriftsprache; außerdem sind sie durch das Vokabular unterschiedlicher Nutzergruppen und durch fehlende Differenzierung zwischen Erfordernis und Anforderung geprägt. Auf der Grundlage von Erkenntnissen des Software- und des Usability-Engineerings, der Semiotik, der Terminologiewissenschaft und der Fachsprachenforschung wird ein Verfahren vorgestellt, das angemessene Benennungen für Objekte im Interface und damit Nutzungsqualität konstruiert. Es dient der Validierung der Nutzungsanforderungen. Ergebnis ist ein Nutzungskonzept in dem die Objekte und Werkzeuge für eine gebrauchstaugliche Aufgabenunterstützung aus den Arbeitsaufgaben hergeleitet werden. Dies hat auch auf die Entwicklung der Funktionalität maßgeblichen Einfluss. Damit wirkt das Verfahren als Brücke zwischen Software- und Usability-Engineering.
