Nach objektorientierten Programmiersprachen und Benutzeroberflächen erobern derzeit die Datenbanksysteme diese zukunftsträchtige Technologie. Objektorientierte Datenbanken sind die Systeme der kommenden Jahre: Sie sind anwenderfreundlich, flexibel, mächtig in der Modellierung und in der Performance können sie relationale Systeme um Größenordnungen übertreffen. Besonders für anspruchsvolle Anwendungsgebiete wie CAD/CAM, Büroautomatisierung, Software Engineering oder Wissensrepräsentation ist die hohe Ausdrucksfähigkeit des objektorientierten Modells von entscheidender Bedeutung. In diesem Band werden die in objektorientierten Anwendungssystemen implementierten theoretischen Ansätze sowie die daraus gewonnenen praktischen Erfahrungen aufgezeigt und diskutiert. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf der praktischen Anwendung.
