Police leadership development has evolved significantly over the past twenty-five years. The former "command-and-control" models of obsolete police leadership methods are simply no longer viable with the modern people that are currently joining police forces in North America. While there is copious amounts of literature available in terms of "best practices" and "core competencies" of effective leadership, contemporary thinking requires an improved approach to leadership practices that will be in alignment with the expectations of the newer generations of police officers in service today. This book resulted from academic research within a police force in North America. The significance of the findings may assist anyone interested in learning more about how the newer generations of officers view police leadership, what they will accept from their leaders and what they will not. This book may also be useful for officers wishing to learn more about developing police leadership qualities throughout an organization, how leadership has evolved from positions of authority to individual activities, and how every officer has true leadership potential regardless of position or rank.
