Paul Abraham (1886 -1943) wuchs als Sohn einer jüdischen Kaufmannsfamilie in Berlin auf. Als Rechtshistoriker widmete er sein gesamtes Arbeitsleben fast ausschließlich einem der renommierten Langzeitprojekte der Preußischen Akademie der Wissenschaften: dem Wörterbuch der Römischen Rechtssprache. Fast dreißig Jahre lang arbeitete er als "Kärrner" im Schatten der prominenten Herausgeber dieses rechtshistorischen Standardwerkes an der Berliner Akademie. Auf Grund seiner jüdischen Herkunft musste er 1939 seine wissenschaftliche Tätigkeit dort endgültig aufgeben. In den letzten ihm verbleibenden Jahren war er Gelegenheits- und Zwangsarbeiter. 1943 wurde er von Berlin aus in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz deportiert, wo er ermordet wurde. Sein Schicksal geriet in Vergessenheit.
