Preserving the Old to Forge the New

Over the past four decades, China's cities have undergone rapid urbanization and industrialization, while its rural areas have steadily declined due to a lack of economic development. Problems such as hollowed-out villages, aging populations, and weak material infrastructure have become increasingly evident. Compared to cities, the countryside is a far more complex ecological system. In this context, the role of the architect should no longer be that of a passive, singular, and one-dimensional problem-solver, but rather an active, multifaceted, and multidirectional organizer and facilitator-one who steps beyond the bounds of architectural design, engages with specific social contexts and policies, integrates upstream and downstream resources, and orchestrates a complete project operation framework that spans from planning and strategy to construction, operation, and communication.

近40年来，中国城市经历了疾速的城镇化与工业化发展，中国乡村因经济发展的缺失而日益走向衰落，空心村、老龄化、物质基础薄弱等弊病日益显现。相比城市，乡村是一个更复杂的生态体，而此时建筑师的身份不应该只是被动的、单一的、单向的问题解决者，而是主动的、复合的、多向的组织引导者--跳出建筑设计范畴，与特定社会语境和政策相结合，整合上下游资源，架构一整套从规划策划到建设运营传播的项目运作流程。
