Puck You, Buddy!

Skipper Tatem has spent three years telling Denver exactly what she thinks of Mateo Santos.

Mostly, she thinks he should learn to backcheck, stop flirting with every camera in a fifty-mile radius, and spend less money on moisturizer.

Mateo loves every second of it.

Skipper is the only reporter covering the Falcons who has never fallen for his smile. She calls him out when he plays badly, mocks him when he deserves it, and seems completely immune to the charms that have made him Denver's most eligible bachelor.

There is, as far as Mateo knows, a very simple reason for that.

Skipper is gay.

At least, that's what he's always assumed.

Then one spectacularly stupid joke from Mateo forces Skipper to clarify something for him, the Falcons, and half of Denver:

She's bisexual.

And suddenly Mateo has a problem.

Because the woman he's spent three years treating as safely, impossibly off-limits is apparently not off-limits at all.

One whiskey at a team fundraiser turns into a kiss. The kiss turns into his bed. And one terrible decision becomes an arrangement governed by very mature, very reasonable rules: no dates, no jealousy, no feelings, and absolutely no letting their secret interfere with Skipper's coverage.

Soon Mateo is showing up at her softball games, Skipper has a toothbrush at his apartment, and the hockey player who has spent his entire career turning everything into a joke is falling hard for the one woman who has always seen straight through him.

But a star athlete sleeping with the reporter assigned to cover him isn't just messy. It could destroy the career Skipper spent a decade building.

And when their private relationship becomes public, Mateo is going to have to learn that sometimes the joke isn't the thing that saves you.
