In vier verschiedenen Essays spricht sich Gmelin nicht nur für eine stärkere Bewertung und Einbindung des Individuums aus, sondern wendet sich auch gleichzeitig gegen die bestehende Theorielastigkeit in Studium und Praxis. Gmelins konsequente und gut veranschaulichte Kritik ermöglicht auch nicht vorgebildeten Lesern einen lehrreichen Einblick in Schwachstellen der hiesigen Rechtsprechung, die noch hundert Jahre später keineswegs behoben sind. §Johann Georg Gmelin (1861-1911) war Oberlandesgerichtsrat in Stuttgart und Verfasser juristischer Schriften.
