Did the note R. G. McAnally had found in his mother's antique mantel clock contain a secret worth killing over?

If so, how big a secret would it take?

He turned the note over and over, thinking. Thinking. When it settled in his hand, he looked down to see a single word written on the back side: "One."

Did "One" indicate that somewhere there lurked a "Two"? Maybe a "Three" as well?
