Sehore's Tamarind Thieves is a journey into a childhood when childhood was not confined to the four walls of home or today's "screen time", but belonged to the heat of the sun, playgrounds, and the laughter, giggles, and mischief of friends. It was an era when children would wander off to who-knows-where while playing-sometimes to pluck ripe ber, sometimes to search for dates for miles, sometimes to bathe in the river, and sometimes into the thrill of stealing tamarinds. Back then, wandering itself was a unique school of life. This book is an attempt to preserve that vanishing world and the childhood that is slowly being confined to memories.

The roots of these stories lie in the small town of Sehore in Madhya Pradesh, a town where the fragrance of history, the penance of saints, and the blessings of nature live side by side in its soil. Old games and sports, rows of tamarind trees, sugarcane from the sugar mill, drowsy summer afternoons, the town fairs, communal meals, seasonal fruits and flowers, temple bells, and the town's own culture, this is the soul of this book.
