Your teen knows how to talk. What they don't know is how to talk to the person who has power over them.

The professor at office hours. The doctor with a hand on the door. The boss in a performance review. The scholarship panel firing questions from three directions. The administrator who says "the system shows what it shows." These are the rooms that make capable young people go quiet - and the ones no confidence book actually prepares them for.

SPEAK WITH CONFIDENCE is the capstone of Real World Rehearsal, and it does something the genre doesn't: it treats the room as the document. Before your teen says a word, they learn to read who decides, who only influences, what each person wants, how much time they have, and what happens if the answer is no.

Inside, fifty rooms:

  • Read the room: who actually decides (not who's friendliest), what the powerful person wants before you make your case, whether it's even the right room
  • Ask anyway: "I don't understand - show me," the question nobody in the room will ask, "is that a rule or a recommendation?"
  • Make the case: one strong point, evidence over emotion, three minutes at a public mic, and discovering you were the one who was wrong
  • Disagree upward: a doctor, a professor, a boss, a review - respectfully, without playing expert
  • High-pressure rooms: panels, the hostile question, recovering after a bad answer, correcting an expert publicly
  • Say it anyway: a full panel interview, a real appeal, a presentation that breaks mid-room, and a final decision that comes back no

The thesis, and it's an honest one: confidence is not volume, not winning, and not pretending you're not nervous. It's saying the clear thing when staying quiet would be easier - and handling the answer, including no. The last Challenge has your teen do everything right and still lose, and explains why that's the actual win: you never controlled the decision, only whether you showed up and said the true thing well.

And the line that matters most: the book carefully distinguishes uncomfortable (speak through it) from unsafe (leave, and get help), with a full safety section and clear guidance on when a room stops being a communication challenge.

What it won't do: tell your teen to "believe in themselves," "find their voice," or "own the room." It teaches confidence through practice, not slogans.

The final book of the series. Ages 15-19. 8.5 × 11.

Real World Rehearsal, Book 6. Practice it now. Know what to do later.
