Da die Kurden als die sprachliche Minderheit im Mittelpunkt stehen, wird vorerst auf die Geschichte der Kurden, ihre Religion und die kurdische Sprache eingegangen. In erster Linie geht es um die folgenden Fragen: Was ist unter sprachlichen Minderheiten zu verstehen und welche Bedeutung haben die Begriffe Sprache und Identität? Welche Rolle hat die Sprache für die Identitätsbildung eines Volkes sowie eines Individuums und welche Bedeutung sind dabei der Amtssprache des Gastlandes und der eigenen Muttersprache zuzuschreiben? Die Kurden leben multilingual, neben der Muttersprache, die nicht immer gut beherrscht wird, werden die Sprache des Herkunftslandes und die Sprache des Gastlandes gesprochen. Welche Bedeutung hat z.B. das Türkische, wenn wir davon ausgehen, dass der Sprecher aus der Türkei stammt, für den Sprecher? Welche von diesen Sprachen Deutsch, Türkisch und Kurdisch ist für die Identität bedeutender?
