Die Arbeit untersucht sprachlichen Ausbau, im Besonderen den Ausbau einer englischen Schriftsprache im späten Mittelalter. Dies geschieht einerseits auf der Basis einer allgemein-theoretischen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Ausbaukonzept und darüber hinaus im Blick auf zwei konkrete Ausbauphänomene: Konstruktionen mit during bzw. notwithstanding. Diese beiden Formen gehen auf lateinische bzw. französische 'Modellkonstruktionen' zurück, wie sie besonders häufig in juristisch-administrativen Texten der Zeit belegt sind. Derartige - diskurstraditionell verortbare - Nachbauzusammenhänge spielen oft eine tragende Rolle in Ausbauprozessen. Dennoch sind sie von der Forschung bis heute kaum beleuchtet worden. Diese Arbeit versteht sich daher als Pilotstudie, die heuristisch und methodisch Neuland betritt.
