He has eleven months to live. She wrote the date.

Kestrel was scored at birth, a number that decided, before he ever drew breath, that he was not worth the cost of keeping alive. For a year, he has been stealing back the lives the system schedules to end medicine rerouted, ambulances redirected, children kept breathing past the dates a machine decided weren't worth the spend. He doesn't call it brave. There is no one left to call it anything to.

Isa writes those dates. She is the cleanest modeler on the floor exact, controlled, untouchable. Until the hunt for the man quietly breaking her system leads her straight to a file with her own signature on it: his death, dated by her hand, eleven months ago.

Now she has a choice the model never accounted for. Expose him and watch the machine collect what it's owed. Or help him and become exactly what she's spent her career hunting.
