The Boy From Paris

Paris, June 1940. Sixteen-year-old Julien Morel watches German troops enter the city he has known all his life. Within hours, the familiar streets remain standing-but everything they mean has changed.

Julien is an apprentice printer, more interested in bicycles, family and discovering the limits of adulthood than politics. But when he discovers that his employer, Lucien Marchand, is quietly using ink and paper to resist the occupation, Julien is drawn into a world where a badly chosen word, an unexplained journey or a scrap of paper can mean imprisonment or death.

As occupation tightens its grip on Paris, Julien's small acts of defiance become something more dangerous. Messages must be carried, identities concealed, families protected and information trusted only as far as it can be proved. Alongside Madeleine Girard and a growing clandestine network, he learns that resistance is rarely heroic in the way he once imagined. More often it means waiting, lying convincingly, knowing when to act-and knowing when not to.

Across four years of occupation, persecution and mounting resistance, Julien is forced to grow up in a city where friendship, love and loyalty carry consequences of their own.

The Boy From Paris is a character-driven story of ordinary people living through extraordinary circumstances: a novel about courage without certainty, the cost of resistance, and a generation forced into adulthood while waiting for Paris to become its own city again. The manuscript deliberately follows Julien's experience of occupation rather than inserting him into the private decisions of famous historical figures.
