In the world of the NWU, Sajaelar Molaes and Jillian Elvons, two outsiders from parallel universes, find themselves stranded and bound to uphold the island's laws alongside a dedicated team of Deputies: Taldale, Sax, Octavia, and Stuart. Their new routine is upended when the formidable pirate queen Ruby Wyatt makes a dramatic entrance.

Ruby Wyatt, with her cunning and charisma, orchestrates a daring prison break to liberate Olizer Wilder, the feared ex-leader of the Hellgate. Together with the remaining Hellgate members, Wyatt commandeers her fearsome ship, the Marauder, and sets her sights on the Isle of Neese. There, she aims to secure a powerful bargaining chip-one that could be traded with the Cyclops king Thaldor in exchange for the body of Jim Dobbs.

The deputies of the NWU rally to pursue the Marauder across treacherous waters. Their quest to thwart Wyatt's plan tests their resolve, alliances, and the limits of their own capabilities as they confront the perils of the open sea.
