The Routledge History of Global Nazism

The Routledge History of Global Nazism approaches National Socialism as a fundamentally global phenomenon, bringing together cutting-edge scholarship that revises the idea of the Third Reich as constrained by its nationalist preoccupations and continental European geography. With themes ranging from empire, political economy, and migration to race, gender, and sexuality, the volume examines the dynamic tension between Nazism’s ideological claims to racial exclusivity and its extensive transnational entanglements across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Structured in three chronological sections, the book's twenty-eight chapters first trace Nazism's global antecedents prior to 1933, before turning to explore the regime’s international networks and imperial ambitions during its twelve-year rule and, finally, assessing its post-1945 legacies. This framework situates National Socialism within broader global contexts, offering new analytical tools for interpreting Nazism, fascism, and authoritarianism in a politically polarized but interdependent world. The volume is designed for undergraduate and graduate students, scholars, and instructors interested in Modern European history, global history, Jewish and Holocaust studies, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, and comparative fascism.
