The Waiting

They've been waiting for you.

A woman's spare key is swapped without her knowledge. Someone has been in her apartment. Someone has been in her friend's apartment too. The cameras show her door opening at 3 AM. No one enters. But a figure appears on footage, getting closer each night. Then her own voice invites her in.

Four childhood friends from Compton. One types "I did it" into the group chat and vanishes. The only clue is an address in Allensworth-a historic Black town in the Central Valley. What they find there has been waiting thirty years. And now it wants to come home.

A man drives the 110 freeway every night. He passes a car on the shoulder. Hazards on. Empty. The next night, it's still there. The third night, a woman walks on the freeway. She turns. Waves. It's his wife. His wife has been dead for three years. But she's here. Walking. Getting closer.

In these thirteen long stories set across Los Angeles, the dead refuse to stay buried. The forgotten refuse to stay forgotten. A building follows a woman across the city. A portrait trades places with the living. A field outside Lancaster holds thousands of faces, all watching, all waiting-for the next one to arrive.
