Alfred Brehm hatte das Glück, bereits in jungen Jahren weite Reisen machen zu können. Er begab sich auf Expeditionen, die ihn in verschiedenste Gegenden der Welt führten. Tragisches wie Erhabenes widerfuhr im dabei, nicht nur einmal schwebte er auf seinen Reisen in Lebensgefahr. Seine Beobachtungen und Erfahrungen veröffentlichte Alfred Brehm 1863-1869 in seinem zoologischen Hauptwerk "Brehms Tierleben".§§In diesem Werk, das erstmals 1929 erschien, erzählt Kurt Floericke in lebhaften Anekdoten von den zahlreichen Widrigkeiten und Erfolgen auf Brehms Reisen nach Afrika, Europa und Asien. Dabei erfährt der Leser viel über Brehms Forschungen und darf seine zahlreichen Abenteuer hautnah miterleben.
