Das Buch gibt Einblick in die florierende Gegenwartsrezeption des Nibelungenliedes und analysiert zwei exemplarische Adaptationen aus unterschiedlichen kulturellen Räumen. Unter den neuen Nibelungen-Dramen beanspruchen Moritz Rinkes gleichermaßen populäres wie umstrittenes Stück "Die Nibelungen" sowie die Trilogie "Der Nibelungen Wohnpark" des ungarischen Autors János Térey besondere Aufmerksamkeit. Beide Werke sind von besonderer literarischer Qualität und haben eine enorme Breitenwirkung entfaltet. Zu Rinkes Drama gibt es bisher nur wenige Aufsätze aus germanistisch-mediävistischer Sicht, die hauptsächlich Überblickscharakter haben. Téreys Nibelungen-Tetralogie ist im deutschen Sprachraum noch wenig bekannt; im Lichte der ungarischen Studien muss der Einfluss der deutschen Quellen auf das Werk als unerforscht gelten. Diese Forschungslücken möchte die Arbeit füllen. Sie untersucht Rezeptionsprozesse, analysiert Figurenkonstellationen und das Phänomen der Repetition in Bezug auf die Transmission tradierter Stoffe auf der Textebene und als zentrale Schreibstrategie.
