Mit diesen Sätzen, klar und deutlich, beginnt der Erzählband "Vor den Vätern sterben die Söhne", der Thomas Brasch (1945-2001) berühmt gemacht hat. Ein Buch der existentiellen und politischen Revolte. Ein Buch von auswegloser Unbedingtheit. Das Buch eines jungen Mannes.§1975 war in Ost-Berlin ein Heft seiner Gedichte veröffentlicht worden: Poesiealbum 89, mit Zeichnungen von Einar Schleef.Im Jahre 1976 fand Braschs "einmalige Ausreise zwecks Übersiedlung aus der DDR" statt, und 1977 erschien - knapp, gedrängt, sorgfältig komponiert - "Vor den Vätern sterben die Söhne" im West-Berliner Rotbuch Verlag. Mit dem Gedichtband "Der schöne 27. September" folgte 1980 der Eintritt in den Suhrkamp Verlag. Brasch war im Westen angekommen. Irgendeinen Grund, sich zu beruhigen, gab es nicht.
