You picked this up because nothing has worked. That is the most important thing you have ever done for your family.

Not the residential program, the IEP meeting, the family court appearance, the crisis line call at 2 a.m., or the long, silent drive home from yet another intake evaluation where you sat in a beige waiting room and filled out forms that did not have a box for what is actually happening in your house.
This moment - right now, this book in your hands - is the first honest thing in a long time. Because what you are holding is not a manual that tells you what you did wrong. It is not a guide that assumes you have not already exhausted every conventional avenue. It is not written for the parent who is just beginning to notice that something is difficult. It is written for you. The one who is deep inside it. The one who has been deep inside it for longer than you can fully account for.
I am going to speak to you directly throughout this volume.
