Kurzzeitig angelegte Zwecke scheiden als Gegenstand einer rechtsfähigen Stiftung aus. Es lassen sich indes zunehmend Bestrebungen erkennen, auch die dem grundlegenden Wandel grundsätzlich nicht zugängliche Stiftung strukturell aufzuweichen. In Bezug auf zeitlich begrenzt konzipierten Stiftungen liegt der Fokus insbesondere auf zwei Erscheinungsformen der Stiftung: der Stiftung auf Zeit und der Verbrauchsstiftung. Ob solche Formen rechtlich zulässig sind, bemisst sich insbesondere an § 80 Abs. 2 BGB. Die Arbeit untersucht demgemäß zunächst Inhalt und Umfang der von § 80 Abs. 2 BGB gemachten Vorgaben und sodann die Gesetzmäßigkeit der Stiftung auf Zeit und der Verbrauchsstiftung.
