Der Autor unternimmt mit dieser Arbeit erstmalig den Versuch, Jüngers explizite und implizite Bezugnahmen auf Goethe komplett zu registrieren und auszuwerten. Seit dem Ende der Kriegschriftstellerei um 1930 findet sich eine Vielzahl von punktuellen Bezugnahmen und strukturell prägenden Rückgriffen auf Goethes Werk, und das heißt auch: auf Goethes Denkstil und Weltbetrachtung. Insgesamt wird deutlich, dass zwischen Jünger und Goethe eine große Affinität bestand, dass sich Jünger in seinem Weltverhalten immer wieder an Goethe erbaute und in der Verarbeitung seiner geschichtlichen Erfahrungen auf Goethe stützte. Die Arbeit stellt eine Erschließungsarbeit dar, die für die Jünger-Forschung wie für die Erforschung der Wirkung Goethes im 20. Jahrhundert von großer Bedeutung ist.
